As a journalist working for Kent newspapers, and also The War and Peace Show, I have met dozens of war veterans and recorded their stories. Most saw action during the Second World War and have now passed on. Some fought in the Korean War and others The Falklands.
Tapes which hold the voices of these brave men sit mute on the shelves of my office. It’s time for the stories to be told and I have set up this website specifically for that purpose. There are stories from many phases of WW2, including evacuation through Dunkirk, D-Day and Kohima in North-East India. Those telling them include infantrymen, tank drivers, gunners, glider pilots, fighter pilots and Royal Navy personnel, among many others.
Like most people my age – 80 last November 2024 – I am challenged, technologically. So, I hope you will forgive any failings in the way the site is put together. But it will be interesting. The men who went to war have guaranteed that.
